Sporting facilities in Spain are excellent, and in the Costa del Sol region they are especially impressive. You can head to the beach for kayaking, snorkelling, paddle-boarding and kite-surfing, while inland there’s tennis, polo, football and bowls. King of the sports scene here, however, surely has to be golf.

There are several factors that make a golfing venue perfect. They include undulating terrain, lush fairways and a stunning climate, and this part of the world has all this and so much more. Playing golf in Spain is always a pleasure, whether you’re an occasional dabbler or the next Tiger Woods.

In any given year, the Costa del Sol enjoys well over 300 days of sunshine, so if you like paying golf under clear blue skies you’re going to love it here. The fairways tend to be hard so the ball will travel further, but be warned, the greens are often lightning fast, so you need to be careful with those putts.

Golf courses of the highest calibre are waiting to wow you

Some of Europe’s most celebrated courses are to be found here, including the magnificent Valderrama, the venue for the 1997 Ryder Cup. La Cala, to the west of Mijas, is an excellent resort offering three superb courses. The superb Chapparal Golf Club lies between Marbella and Torremolinos, while the glorious Real Club de Sotogrande is one of the jewels of the western half of the region.

It’s worth noting that most courses in the Costa del Sol are busier in the mornings than they are in the afternoons. Be sure to wear correct golfing attire because the marshals and pro shop staff will usually be quite strict about this matter. Also, many courses have quite long distances between some of the holes, so you may want to consider booking a buggy in advance.

If you have started to learn Spanish but aren’t as accomplished as you’d like to be, this isn’t usually a problem at Spanish golf resorts. The staff there will have become used to dealing with English speakers, because the Costa del Sol is a popular destination for golf breaks from the UK.

The quality of the golfing venues is a strong magnet for those looking to move to Spain. If you’re thinking about doing the same, the friendly team at Simply Costa Developments can help you from the start. To find out more, call +34 682 66 22 89 as soon as possible.
