Things To Do

So many things to enjoy when you start a new adventure in Spain

One of the most pleasing aspects of all about moving to Spain is the sheer variety of activities that become open to you. This is a nation that prides itself on the outdoor life, so you’ll find plenty of things to do here. Needless to say, there will be times when you want nothing more than to chill out in the shade and sip a cold beer, and that’s perfectly fine as well.

The Costa del Sol region is blessed with some of the most beautiful beaches to be found anywhere in Europe. Life by the water’s edge can be slow or fast, depending on your mood. Lazing the day away on a sun-bed, interspersed with the occasion dip to cool you down, is a particular pleasure. And when you’re feeling more active, why not try sea-kayaking, paragliding, kite-surfing, jet skiing or any of a number of other water-sports?

This area is sometimes referred to as the Costa del Golf, and it’s so easy to see why. There are some fabulous golf courses to be found here, including Valderrama, Santana, Torrequebrada and La Cala. The undulating terrain and the fabulous Spanish climate combine to create golfing experiences that will never be forgotten.

The fact that the Costa del Sol area is a popular magnet for tourists means you’ll always find things to do when you live here. There are some excellent theme parks on the Costa, so family fun is only ever a short drive away. Try Tivoli World at Benalmádena, Aqualand at Torremolinos and the excellent Costa Water Park in Fuengirola. Nothing beats a day out with the family!

Head inland to explore the fabulous Andalusian countryside

Away from the coastline, the area is home to dramatic mountains, picturesque rivers and exceptionally pretty inland villages. Some of these places can only be reached by a relatively slow car journey through the hills, but they’re worth the effort. Casares is one of the finest, a place where whitewashed houses, cobbled streets and spectacular views come together to create something very special.

Many newcomers to the region find themselves surprised by the number of fiestas and festivals that take place here throughout the year. These are an intrinsic part of Spanish life, and many of the more traditional celebrations go back hundreds of years. You can get into the spirit of things by wandering the streets as the parades go by, and sampling some of the delicious Andalusian food that can be found at every event.

Many Britons retire to Spain to enjoy a quieter life, but of course they can remain as active as they want here. And if you’re planning to continue working on the Costa del Sol you can still find so many activities to enjoy on days off.
