Unwinding in style in glorious Yunquera

Less than 50 kilometres from Marbella yet in many ways a whole lifetime away, Yunquera is a highly attractive and highly desirable village in the Sierra de las Nieves area. If you’re looking to get away from it all but you still want to be only an hour or so from the coast, this could be the perfect location for you.

It’s an elevated pueblo blanco with a population of around 3,000, and is a popular spot for those looking to relocate to a more remote lifestyle without being too far from the madding crowd. The road to Yunquera from Benalmádena can take you through pretty towns such as Alhaurin de la Torre and Coín while the route to Marbella directly to the south passes through Monda and Ojén.

The views from Yunquera are quite simply spectacular. The village is around 680 metres above sea level, and in the winter many of the mountains in the distance will be snow-covered. The temperatures in Yunquera will be a little cooler than those further south, but will still be pleasantly warm throughout the summer. The surrounding countryside is beautiful, and is dotted with citrus groves and vineyards.

Moving to Yunquera will bring you a wonderfully slow-paced lifestyle, accompanied by vistas of sweeping mountains and verdant landscapes. The houses in the village are whitewashed, many of the streets are cobbled and the local bars and restaurants are very welcoming.
