Torremolinos may just be the next place you call home

Over the past few decades, Torremolinos has become something of a byword for a typical Spanish holiday resort. It’s worth noting, however, that the town has been getting more and more popular with ex-pats in recent years, and is now home to a thriving community of people from across Europe who have chosen to live permanently here.

Once a small fishing village, Torremolinos expanded dramatically with the tourism boom of the 1960s and 1970s. These days, it’s home to a huge range of hotels, restaurants, bars, clubs and tourist attractions, not to mention of course a selection of fabulous golden beaches.

Thanks perhaps to its tourism infrastructure, the town has one of the best public transport networks in the whole of southern Spain. The international airport at Malaga is a short distance from here, and there are plenty of buses and trains to help you get from A to B. Some newcomers find they don’t necessarily need to own a car at all.

While a number of high-rise hotels are to be found on the waterfront, the old town itself still retains a pleasing sense of history and heritage. You can shop till you drop along Calle San Miguel, an iconic Andalusian street that’s lined with stores offering jewellery, clothing, souvenirs and food. If you’re a history buff, be sure to explore the Iglesia de San Miguel, an exceptionally beautiful church.

Ideal weather, ideal properties, ideal lifestyle

The climate in Torremolinos is exceptional, with long, hot and dry summers that don’t overpower you with humidity, and relatively mild winters. The main beach is some 8km in length, and is illuminated at night. Long walks and cycle rides can be enjoyed along the promenade, interspersed with refreshing drinks in the local bars, needless to say.

The nightlife in Torremolinos is legendary, and it’s worth noting that you’ll find something for everyone here. You can party all night in the clubs, of course, but if you simply want to enjoy a glass of wine and some tapas in a quiet pavement restaurant you can do so with ease. The diversity that’s available in the town is one of its many charms.
