Nerja

Succumb to the charms of Nerja

If you like the idea of living in a small town that has the convenience of a city and the intimacy of a village, the chances are that Nerja will fit the bill perfectly. Located some 55km or so from Malaga, it’s a wonderful place for those looking to put down roots on the Costa del Sol.

Nerja offers plenty of stunning beaches, a great selection of shops and several schools. The weather here is excellent, and even in winter you can still enjoy relatively warm days most of the time. In the evenings, the temperatures tend to drop, however, although not like they do in the UK, of course.

The town has a particularly attractive waterfront, and this is best observed from the celebrated – and much photographed – Balcón de Europa, a spectacular viewpoint in the centre of the old town. If you ever want to see a stereotypical vista of the Costa del Sol’s dramatic coastline, this is the place to be.

Eat, drink and be merry!

If you’d like to make the most of Spain’s rightly famous social scene, be sure to check out the bars and restaurants in Nerja. The more touristy areas play host to a wonderful selection of tapas bars, and you’ll find many more in the back streets of the quieter parts of town.

In the old part of town close to the waterfront, there are some fabulous restaurants offering cuisine options from all over the world, and of course some that serve the finest traditional Andalusian specialities. Some locals, as well as many ex-pats, like to visit several bars in an evening, enjoying one drink and a single plate of tapas in each of them.

There’s a thriving property scene in Nerja, ranging from cosy apartments to large villas in the old and new parts of town. Burriana is a popular locale, in part because it’s home to a stunning beach. If you’re thinking about making the move here, Simply Costa Developments can guide you through the whole process of buying a property in Spain. Call +34 682 66 22 89 today to find out more.

As you might expect from a bustling seafront community, Nerja offers a broad spectrum of water-sports. Popular activities include kayaking, scuba diving and parasailing, but if you prefer something a little more relaxing, be sure to try the banana boat rides when visiting the beach. Inland, hiking and mountain biking are always a pleasure, with the 2,069-metre La Maroma just an hour from the town centre.
